1. Gratitude
I almost died.
Theses pictures were taken just days apart. I experienced a terrible mountain bicycle accident in Colorado when I was in my early twenties. I was near the Colorado River in Glenwood Springs.
What started as a beautiful day enjoying the majestic mountains turned into an emergency trip to the hospital. I passed out (I don't know for how long) after riding too fast downhill on serpentines, and crashing into some boulders and shrubs. I lost control. All I remember was blood flowing all over my face and body.
Long story short, it took me 2 full years to recover. All this to say, I live each day with gratitude. I don't need any other motivation. Not a fancy car, a huge house, or a bigger paycheck. God gave me life. For a reason. For this, I'm thankful!

2. Discipline
2022 was a year of many changes for my family and I.
Here's a picture of some of the notebooks I used to stay organized. They all represent something very important to me - discipline. Small habits, done consistently, that nurture growth (in my spiritual life, financial, vocational, emotional, etc.). I don't feel like writing in my gratitude journal every day. Somedays, I don't (not proud to say that). But I've learned that emotions are not my ruler. By pressing on and taking action - be it planning my weekly schedule, exercising, finishing family/house projects, and more - I am putting myself in a place to think differently, so that I can act differently. Discipline starts small or it doesn't start at all. |
3. Family
We're not here forever.
As our two boys grow, my wife and I realize how valuable time is. It's a precious commodity. I do what I can to protect it and to invest in it. If you want me to hang out during the middle of the week, so we can go play basketball at 8pm, I probably won't do it. I'm at an age where I don't mind if people think I'm weird or boring. I'd rather spend time with family and sleep well. I know God brought my family and I together for a reason. That's why I want to use the time we have together to do good; to love one another, and the world around us. |
What do YOU value? Let's talk about something other than just 'work'. =)
